Operatives of Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, caught a herdsman who simply identified himself as Mohammed, with one AK-47 rifle.
The herdsman is being suspected to be member of kidnap syndicates which had been terrorizing the area for some time.
Disclosing the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday, August 11, the command’s spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that two young herdsmen of Fulani extract had been sighted at CAC Oha forest, Iwoye Ketu, in Imeko Afon Local Government Area with AK-47 rifle.
When the information got to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Imeko divisional headquarters, he was said to have quickly mobilized his men and other stakeholders, including local hunters, vigilante men and So Safe Corps, and stormed the forest.
“After hours of combing the forest, one Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested,” the PPRO said.
He stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
The police commissioner also directed that the entire forest be thoroughly combed, in order to apprehend other members of the suspect’s gang.
