Operatives of Ogun State Police Command on Saturday, July 17, 2021, arrested suspected kidnapper, Waliu Oloyede, who allegedly abducted a military officer.
He was picked up at Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of the state while dressed in full military camouflage uniform with the rank of a Warrant Officer 2 (W/O2).
Thenewsbearer learnt that prior to his arrest, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sango Ota divisional headquarters, CSP Godwin Idehai, got a distress call that vigilante men were having issues with an army officer at Odo Pako area of Ota.
This made the DPO to lead his team to the scene where the suspect, dressed in full military camouflage uniform with the rank of W02, was see, but could not give satisfactory account of himself.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Monday, July 19, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the suspect was apprehended and taken to the station.
During interrogation, the suspect, who was said to have attempted to snatch a dane gun from a vigilante man, was unable to give account of how he got the military uniform, or address of the unit where he was serving, leading to his being detained for impersonation.
“While in detention, the police got an information that the suspect and others at large abducted a military officer with the rank of W/O2 at about 11:30 pm on July 16, and took him to their hideout in Alagbado area of Lagos State.
“The military officer was stripped of his uniform, while they collected his identity card,his three ATM cards and phone, before the victim escaped from them.
“It was their victim’s uniform that the suspect put on to commit another crime before he was arrested,” the PPRO explained.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspect to Anti- Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
The CP also ordered a massive manhunt for his accomplice, with the view to bringing them to justice.
