The Nigeria Police Force successfully raided an illegal weapons manufacturing factory at Tse Akamabe Area of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, where two suspects, identified as Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume a.k.a. “AK”, were arrested.

Also raided was the house of a cultist in Delta State, while two suspects were nabbed in Kebbi State for culpable homicide.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Friday, January 17, said that raids were proactive responses towards improving security and national safety.

The FPRO stated further that the successful moves exemplified the determination of the Force to ensure the stability of the internal security and swift reduction in crime rates across the country.

He said: “The Police carried out a well-coordinated operation that led to the discovery of an illegal weapons manufacturing factory at Tse Akamabe Area of Kwande LGA, Benue State, and upon a coordinated search of the factory, the following items were recovered — nine locally-fabricated pistols, a locally-fabricated AK-47 rifle (yet to be completed), two gas cylinders, four vise machines, a filing machine and numerous other weapons manufacturing tools.”

Similarly, police operatives attached to the Delta State Command, acting upon credible intelligence, raided an apartment belonging to a suspected cultist, Prosper Akeni, aged 32, who belonged to Eiye Confraternity.

Said to be a hit man for the cult group, items recovered from Akeni  included an English revolver pistol, a Beretta pistol, two locally-made double-barrel guns, two locally-made single barrel gun, a locally-made revolver pistol, a locally-made single barrel pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition.

According to ACP Adejobi, the suspect confessed that the guns recovered from him belonged to his cult group but were in his custody as the Number One man in the group.

Also, the police arrested 25-year-old Yunusa Haruna  from Bakin Turu Village in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on December 31, 2024, at about 8p.m., after he fatally stabbed his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, with a sharp knife in the chest.

“In response to the ugly incident, a team of police officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Shanga promptly raced to the scene and arrested the suspect.

“Also, another suspect, one Abubakar Ummar, was arrested in Zuru Village on January 8, 2025, for stabbing one Mohammed Bala during an argument, which led to his demise’,” ACP Adejobi said.

Commending the operatives for the achievements in the fight against crime and criminality, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, charged them to intensify efforts in ensuring that sanctity is restored across the country.

The IGP further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant at all times and share useful information with the police in order to have a community-based policing system.
