An ongoing onslaught against bandits and other criminal elements by Zamfara State Police Command yielded fruits on Sunday, April 4, 2021, when a suspected armed bandit was gunned down, while others fled with possible bullet wounds, during an exchange of gunfire when police operatives wanted to halt an intended attack.
Police spokesman in the state, SP Mohammed Shehu, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, April 5, said that the felled suspect had been a kingpin of armed bandits.
The PPRO stated that the suspect had been on the radar of the police, and had specialised in terrorising innocent people of Maradun Local Government Area and other neighbouring ones.
Shehu said that on April 4, operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder II of the command were on patrol along Tsibiri Cillage, near Sububu forest in Maradun LGA, when they intercepted a group of armed bandits who were believed to be on attack mission in the village.
“On sighting the police operatives, the bandits engaged them in a gun duel, which the personnel quickly replied.
“As a result, one of the bandits was gunned down, while others fled into the forest with possible gunshot wounds.
“In the course of profiling the scene, an AK47 rifle with breech no. AK 103-2051361627, a magazine containing four rounds of live ammunition, an operational motorcycle, a bag containing bundle of charms and set of military camouflage uniform were recovered.
“The command assures members of the public that the ongoing operations against the recalcitrant bandits who have refused to embrace the ongoing peace accord of the state governor, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, will be effectively sustained, to rid the state of all forms of criminal elements,” the PPRO stated further.
