The Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) made significant strides in the ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore security in Delta State and beyond when its operatives engaged suspected killers of the command’s personnel in a gun duel, leading to the neutralisation of some of them.
The team also recovered 10 of the 13 rifles they carted away after the killing of the police officers.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the gallant operatives’ move was in response to the recent charge by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on intelligence gathering and sharing for effective operational deployments.
The Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement to showcase the achievement of the police, recalled the recent tragic events in Ohoro Forest, Ughelli, in which some police operatives were ambushed and gruesomely murdered, leading to the loss of 13 police rifles to the criminal suspects.
ACP Adejobi said: “During a coordinated operation, the gallant operatives of the FID-IRT engaged the suspects in a gun duel which led to the neutralisation of some of them, while the police operatives successfully reclaimed 10 of the stolen weapons and recovered some arms used by the assailants.”
In a similar vein, the FPRO disclosed that the Nigeria Police effectively addressed the kidnapping crisis that had plagued the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with the arrest of six members of the notorious kidnap gang terrorising the area.
“The suspects are currently in custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations,” he stated.
Adejobi added that the IGP had reassured the public that the police would continue to employ all necessary measures to combat criminal activities across the nation, as the safety and security of Nigerian citizens remain a top priority.
Saying that the Force is committed to maintaining peace and order through diligent and proactive efforts, the IGP reiterated the determination of his leadership to creating a safe and secure environment for all citizens while appreciating their support and cooperation.
