THE new Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr Wale Olokode, has promised that under his watch, the state would be a no-go area for criminals, just as he showcased the command’s achievements in the last one week that he assumed duties.
Olokode spoke during his maiden press conference and parade of suspected criminal as the Commissioner of Police in the state on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Speaking further, the police boss said: First, I want to thank the Almighty God for seeing me through the vicissitudes of a risk-filled policing career over the years, to the present exalted position of the Commissioner of Police Osun State. To him alone be the glory.
“I also thank the Inspector-General of Police, our own very intellectual, goal-driven, suave and urbane, highly detribalised IGP, Mohammed A. Adamu, Npm, mni, for the rare privilege and opportunity afforded me to serve in this high capacity. I cannot thank him enough. This is an actualisation of my dream, a most fulfilling stage and milestone in my life.
“I am equally indebted to the Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola a quintessential gentleman, for the kind words and warm acceptance with which he welcomed me to the state. I am particularly motivated by his assurances to give the command under my leadership all necessary assistance and support to succeed in my mission to the state, and his advice that the command under my leadership should be guided by the high ideals of rule of law and justice in its operations.
“Gentlemen of the press, I came fully prepared to serve the good people of Osun State, through hard work and partnership with the people and fidelity to the right procedures, actions and behaviour of policemen in all their activities.
“I shall determinedly, passionately, and to the best of my ability mobilise the entire officers and men of the Command to achieve in Osun state the three principal objectives and priorities of police organisations worldwide, which are effective (tolerable) crime control, civil disorder control and reduction in fear of crime (foc), which are also basic duties of the NPF, provided in Section 4 of the Police Act. On this, I pledge my personal integrity and honour, hold out myself and the entire command to public account.
“Both the low and high individuals, big and small communities in the state will enjoy our services. Policemen will be made more visible in the state through adequate protection of key and vulnerable points, intensive patrols of neighbourhoods, business districts, and roads; constant surveillance and regular raids of black-spots and criminal hideouts.
“The command will take the battle to the den of kidnappers, cultists, drug dealers, sea pirates, traffickers, indeed criminals of all hues and their sponsors, procurers, counselors and accessories in and outside the State. Our war mantra will be “criminals, here are your own coins”. We will pay criminals back in their coins.
“Under my watch, Osun State is going to be a no go area for criminals as nowhere in the state will be conducive for them to fester or hibernate. We are going to roll out all in our arsenal to wage war against any form of violent crime such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, ritual killings and other sundry crimes.
“To the law abiding citizens of the state, be rest assured that your safety is guaranteed all the time as the command will do everything possible within the ambit of the law to protect you and your property.”
