The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman, presented cheques of #26,170,760 to families of deceased officers who died while in active service.
The cheques, issued to the next of kins of seven deceased officers, is part of the IGP insurance welfare scheme, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Friday.
The CP, while presenting the cheques, appreciated the gesture exhibited by the IGP, saying the money would in no small way, act as a boost to the families and also to let them know that though their loved ones are no more, the force did not forget their sacrifices.
The beneficiaries thanked the IGP for his magnanimity, noting that the money given to them will be used judiciously.
In another development, the state police boss has decorated newly promoted officers of the command.
Among those promoted are the DPO ‘A’ Division, Asaba, CSP Temitope Fasugba; the officer-in-charge Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, CSP Emmanuel Yakubu; the DPO Abbi Division, CSP Mu’azu Mohammed.
They are all promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.
Others promoted are the Command Finance Officer (CFO), SP Ogungbagbe Opeyemi; the Commander, Crack Squad, SP John Agaga and four others promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendents of Police.
The CP admonished all the beneficiaries to remember that the reward for hard work is more work and therefore advises them to put more effort in whatever they do as police officers.
