A 75-year-old man, Isa Nana Okpoku, has been arrested by operatives attached to Obi Division, Nasarawa State Police Command, for having an unlawful carnal knowledge of his four-year-old niece (name withheld).
The suspect, of Daddare Development Area, Obi Local Government Area of the state, was picked up after the incident was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters on Saturday, December 10, at about 8am.
Confirming the suspect’s arrest in a statement on Sunday, December 11, 2022, the command’s spokesman, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and his niece were residing in the same house which made it easy for him lure her to his room where he defiled her.
The PPRO said that the victim was taken to a hospital for medical examination, where the doctor confirmed that her hymen had been broken.
DSP Nansel stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Mohammed Baba, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the offence, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after after its completion.
