The Department of State Services (DSS) carried out a joint operation with sister security agencies in Kogi State on March 26, 2023, during which a six-man criminal gang at Gegu Beki, along the Lokoja-Abuja Road was intercepted.

This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya in a statement.

The suspected gang members include Col. A.U. Suleiman (rtd), Barrister M.K. Aminu, Kabir Abdullahi, Isah Umar, Kadir Echi and Adama Abdulkarim.

Items recovered from them were a pump action rifle, four cartridges,an AK-47 empty shell and a cash sum of N11,030.

Also, on Saturday, March 25, according to Dr Afunanya, DSS operatives apprehended a 20-year-old suspected kidnapper, Haruna Adamu, at Fotta Village in Gombi Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

Recovered from him were an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

In addition, a suspected gunrunner, Aminu Ibrahim, was arrested on March 23, along Kubwa Expressway, Abuja by the DSS operatives while he was on his way from Nasarawa State to deliver 432 rounds of 7.62 x39mm calibre ammunition, concealed in a four-litre gallon of palm oil, to a bandit in Niger State.

A sum of N21,400 was also recovered from the suspect.

Earlier on March 22, Babangida Ibrahim, an arms courier to bandits in Zamfara State, was apprehended along Bukuru in Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Recovered from him were 468 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and a cash sum of N21, 090.

“All the suspects have been taken into custody and will be prosecuted accordingly,” the PRO stated.

He hinted that the DSS and relevant security agencies were carrying out further investigations into related matters in parts of the country.

He added that the Service would continue to collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to curb crime in the country, while he enjoined members of the public to give the agencies relevant information for counter actions against criminal and subversive elements.
