Benue State Police Command has promised to intensify efforts in apprehending the killers of a retired judge, Justice Margaret Mary Igbetar, just as it arrested a suspect identified as Aondohemba Joseph.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, in a statement, spoke on how the police in the command got information on the death of the judge.
Anene said that a report was received at ‘E’ Police Division Makurdi on August 24, 2023 at about 3:30pm that Justice Igbetar (rtd) did not respond to calls made to her while her whereabouts was unknown.
According to the PPRO, detectives were immediately deployed for investigation, and a search conducted within her house at Wantor Kwange Street, Gboko Road, Makurdi led to the discovery of her dead body in a pool of blood inside her kitchen.
The detectives also saw that she had deep cuts on her back.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of one Aondohemba Joseph and recovery of exhibits for detailed investigation,” the spokeswoman said.
Commiserating with family and friends of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka, condemned this dastardly act.
He assured of his command’s commitment to ensuring the unraveling of the mystery behind the retired judge’s death and bringing the perpetrators of the barbaric act to book.
