A 31-year-old 400-level female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, Adaeze Doris Jaja, was found dead in a hotel on January 27, 2024.
She was found lying unconscious on a freezer and foaming in the mouth, with an empty bottle of an insecticide, Sniper 1000EC/DDVP, beside her.
The Police Public Relations Officer in spokeswoman Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, who was contacted by Thenewsbearer, confirmed the story, saying that the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Officer, Ago Iwoye Division, on the said date at about 7:30am by the Director of Be-Happy Hotel in Ago Iwoye, Hon. Oduniyi Adelaja.
She said that the Director told the police that he received a call from a staff of the hotel, one Adebayo Israel, at about 6am that the student was found lying unconscious and foaming in the mouth.
“An empty bottle of Sniper 1000EC/DDVP was found beside her and she was immediately rushed to Best Care Hospital and later transferred to Love and Care Hospital in Ago Iwoye, where she was confirmed dead.
“The scene of the crime was visited, and the empty sniper bottle was recovered. The body has been taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University mortuary for post-mortem examination.
“The Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) is currently investigating the case. The school authority has been notified, and efforts are being made to inform the family.
“Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated,” the PPRO said.
