Ondo State Police Command has warned vehicle owners against driving unregistered vehicles or covering registration number plates, as it describes it as an unlawful act that attracts punishment.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, read: “The attention of the Police has been drawn to the unlawful act of covering number plates and use of unregistered vehicles with impunity by vehicle owners within the state.
“As part of crime prevention measures, the police command frowns at this unlawful trend as intelligence has it that some of these vehicles are deliberately covered or not registered to perpetrate crimes without any trace.
“On this note, the Commissioner of Police has directed that all vehicles within the state should have their valid number plates well displayed, as vehicle owners without number plates/covered plate numbers will be contravened and prosecuted under the extant laws.”
The police command encouraged the good people of the state to be law abiding, promising to do everything lawful to curb crime and criminality within the state.
