Individuals suspected to be members of a cult group on Saturday, October 12, stormed Jide Jones Street, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and shot dead a 40-year-old man, Adeyinka Adeleke.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the incident, which occurred at about 12:30pm, was reported to the police by a concerned state resident.
According to the eyewitness, the suspected cultists arrived the scene in an unregistered Toyota Corolla Sports car and were seen armed with a pump action gun and a pistol.
On sighting Adeleke, the assailants opened fire on him and made sure he was dead before fleeing the scene for an unknown destination.
The spokeswoman for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, said that a relative of the deceased, one Adeyinka Adesanya, requested for the body to be taken for burial without doctor’s examination or autopsy.
“Photos of the scene have been taken, and normalcy has been restored.
“Investigation into the murder has commenced and members of the public are assured of routine patrol.
“Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the PPRO said.
