The Edo State Police Command has taken a man into custody in connection with the death of his childhood friend, who was reportedly killed during a home celebration in the state.
According to police, 43-year-old Eghosa Osas — who had recently returned from abroad to spend the Christmas holidays with his family — was attacked and fatally injured while attending a house-warming party in Oben community of Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the victim excused himself during the gathering and was lured by his childhood friend, identified as Amadin William, into a nearby bush path where the fatal attack occurred. Osas reportedly sustained deep machete cuts to his neck and later died from his injuries.
After the incident on December 22, 2025, the suspect initially fled but was tracked down and arrested in Benin City on December 27.
The case was reported by the victim’s elder brother, and police have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
Authorities say William will be charged in court once the inquiry is completed.
Local reaction to the killing was tense, with reports that angry youths in the community set the suspect’s house on fire in the aftermath.
