Suspected bandits have launched a deadly assault on the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka village, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving at least five personnel dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred late on Tuesday night, January 6, 2026, at about 11p.m. when armed men stormed the facility under the cover of darkness.
According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the attackers caught the NPS operatives off guard, opening fire on officers who were on duty.
Some accounts suggested that victims were struck down while resting near the office compound.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the attack, with the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stating that distress calls prompted an immediate security response.
Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna and other security chiefs were reported to be en route to the scene as tactical units — including the Mobile Police Force and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams — were deployed to contain the situation and prevent further violence.
