Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu was on Wednesday, February 25, decorated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with his new rank as the new acting Inspector General of Police.
The decoration ceremony was held at the State House, Abuja.
The decoration took place barely 24 hours after the erstwhile IGP Kayode Egbetokun submitted his resignation letter to the Presidency, citing family issues that require his undivided attention.
Though the acting IGP had his retirement scheduled for April 13, 2026, when he would have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years, the amended Police Act, allows Inspectors-General of Police to serve a four year tenure regardless of age.
President Tinubu, who pinned the new insignia on IGP Disu’s uniform commended the outgoing IGP Egbetokun for his service to the nation.
In attendance were the wife of the new IGP, Mrs Disu, who joined President Tinubu in the decoration; National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; and the immediate past IGP, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.
