Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said no political party should be denied access to public facilities in the state, provided it meets the established requirements for their use.
Makinde stated this in response to concerns over the proposed use of Mapo Hall, Ibadan, by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its presidential campaign.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor maintained that government-owned facilities belong to the people and should be managed fairly, transparently and without partisan considerations.
He said access to such facilities was subject to established procedures and regulations, adding that political parties that fulfilled the stipulated conditions should not face discrimination or unjust restrictions.
The governor also urged political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly, while calling on relevant authorities to handle requests for the use of public facilities professionally and without bias.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to political tolerance, democratic freedoms and equal opportunities for political parties to engage with the electorate in accordance with the law.
