The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, who later died after reportedly taking her own life.
The suspect, 40, was arrested following a petition alleging that the young woman travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly invited her with a promise to train her in content creation, a programme he reportedly advertised on his social media platforms.
According to the police, the complainants alleged that upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect took the woman to a hotel where he allegedly raped and physically assaulted her.
The Command said the victim returned home traumatised and informed her parents of the alleged incident.
She also reportedly recorded a video in which she narrated her ordeal and the emotional distress she experienced following the alleged assault.
Police further disclosed that the woman later allegedly ingested a toxic substance in what investigators believe was an act of suicide.
She was rushed for medical attention but eventually died.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Commander in Effurun to commence an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
The Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Wednesday, July 15, said detectives acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of Ogbonna.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly made statements considered useful to the investigation, while detectives continue efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
The Command emphasised that the investigation remains ongoing and that all available evidence, including the victim’s recorded video and other relevant materials, would be thoroughly examined.
CP Oyeniyi assured the bereaved family and members of the public that the investigation would be handled professionally, impartially and in accordance with the law.
He pledged that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked and promised that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The PPRO, in addition, urged members of the public to allow investigators to complete their work and refrain from speculation capable of prejudicing the case.
