The Edo State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with separate alleged cases of child defilement across the state, while also recovering a stolen Lexus 350 hours after it was taken during a robbery operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, disclosed this during a press briefing, where he outlined some of the major breakthroughs recorded by the Command in its renewed efforts to strengthen security across the state.
Daaor said the Command was adopting a highly mobile operational strategy aimed at making Edo State an uncomfortable environment for criminals.
According to him, the Command is also deepening inter-command and inter-state collaboration, while focusing on prevention, intelligence gathering, swift intervention, effective investigation and prosecution.
On child protection, the Commissioner disclosed that a 52-year-old man, Daniel Erumudonmoh Okhuilegbe, was arrested on August 5, 2026, following an allegation involving a 13-year-old girl.
He said the suspect was allegedly engaged as a home lesson teacher but was accused of abusing the trust placed in him by sexually assaulting the child.
Daaor stated that after investigation was concluded, the suspect was charged before the Benin High Court on August 14 and subsequently remanded at the Oko Correctional Centre, Benin.
The Commissioner also disclosed the arrest and prosecution of a 42-year-old man over the alleged defilement of his 15-year-old daughter in Iyahmo.
He said the matter was reported on August 6 and, following discreet investigation after the case was transferred to the State Headquarters, the suspect was charged to court on August 14 and remanded at the Benin Correctional Centre.
In another case, the police arrested a 29-year-old man, Samson Amachie, over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old girl in Okhoro.
According to the CP, the incident was transferred from Okhoro Police Station to the Gender and Family Support Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Benin, on August 10.
He said the suspect allegedly lured the child to an uncompleted building behind his shop, where he was accused of having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
Daaor added that Amachie was subsequently arraigned before the Benin High Court and remanded at the Oko Correctional Centre.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the Command was investigating another alleged defilement case involving a 14-year-old girl in Okpella.
He said the incident was reported on August 12, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that a 26-year-old man, Otaru Jonathan, allegedly took the girl on a motorcycle to an uncompleted building at Afokpella, where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her and subsequently gave her N2,000.
The survivor, he said, was taken to hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, while the suspect was arrested and remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigation and subsequent arraignment.
Meanwhile, the Edo Police Command has recovered a Lexus 350 saloon car stolen during a robbery operation in Iduowinna Community.
Daaor said six armed hoodlums invaded a compound on Jesus Christ Street, Iduowinna Community, at about 1:15 a.m. on August 14, robbing residents and neighbouring apartments of phones, laptops, wristwatches, perfumes and human hair.
He said the hoodlums also took away a Lexus 350, with registration number BWR 988 DH, belonging to one of the victims.
According to him, the scene was immediately visited, while all police divisions were alerted and patrols intensified within the community.
The vehicle was recovered at about 9:00 a.m. the same day at Oba Market, in what the Commissioner described as a major breakthrough.
Daaor said investigation was ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover other items stolen during the robbery.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen its operational capacity and intelligence network to protect lives and property across Edo State.
He urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to the police, stressing that the Command remained committed to maintaining law and order while respecting the rights of citizens.
