The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man, Lucky Oyiboka, and recovered 21 bags of weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa during a raid on a suspected drug hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.
Oyiboka was arrested on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following credible intelligence on activities allegedly linked to the distribution of illicit drugs.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operatives conducted an intelligence-led raid on the suspected criminal hideout, where a search of the premises led to the recovery of the 21 bags of suspected Indian hemp.
The latest operation, the Command said, forms part of ongoing efforts in furtherance of the crime-fighting initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The Command said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
It added that investigation had been intensified to establish the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other individuals connected with the operation.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the PPRO stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.
The CP also called on residents to continue providing the Police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and combating crime, assuring members of the public that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
