‎30,000 corps members set for Osun poll duty as INEC finalises election logistics

No fewer than 30,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps have been placed on standby for deployment as ad hoc personnel in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, highlighting the critical role corps members will play in the conduct of the poll.

‎The Independent National Electoral Commission said it would draw election officials from a pool of over 30,000 corps members across the state, even as sensitive election materials, including ballot papers and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices, have arrived in Osogbo ahead of the exercise. INEC said the materials are being secured at the Central Bank of Nigeria and will be distributed to local government offices and Registration Area Centres before election day.

‎The corps members are expected to serve in various capacities, including presiding officers and assistant presiding officers, at polling units across the state.

‎ Their deployment comes amid heightened security arrangements, with more than 25,000 personnel from the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission assigned to election duties.

‎INEC officials said preparations were geared towards ensuring the early deployment of personnel and election materials, with corps members expected to move to Registration Area Centres ahead of Saturday’s poll. The commission also disclosed that Osun has 2,339,233 registered voters eligible to participate in the election.
