The Adamawa State Police Command has secured the conviction of three suspected members of the notorious Shilla gang, with the Chief Magistrate Court II, Yola, sentencing each of them to 10 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The convicts — Sanusi Umar, 19; Mohammed Magaji, 17; and Yakubu Ibrahim, 20 — all residents of Zango Ward in Yola North Local Government Area, were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and extortion.
Presided over by Chief Magistrate Dorcas J. Mavah, the court sentenced each convict to three years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and seven years for extortion, bringing the total sentence to 10 years each.
The trio was arrested by operatives of Doubeli Police Station following a complaint from their alleged victim, Bello Yusuf of Anguwan Tana, Yola North LGA.
According to the prosecution, the convicts, on September 9, 2026, allegedly conspired and armed themselves with a cutlass before attacking Yusuf and dispossessing him of his Smart P-30 mobile phone valued at N42,000.
When the charges contained in the First Information Report were read and explained to them in court, the three convicts pleaded guilty.
Following their pleas, the police prosecutor applied for a summary trial, which was granted by the court.
The court subsequently convicted and sentenced each of them to 10 years in prison without an option of fine.
Commending the officers who handled the arrest, investigation and prosecution of the case, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, praised them for their professionalism and commitment to the fight against criminality.
The CP warned that the command would sustain its zero-tolerance stance against Shilla gangsterism, extortion, street violence and other forms of crime, stressing that offenders would be made to face the full weight of the law.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information on criminal activities in their communities.
The command assured residents of its continued efforts to strengthen security and make Adamawa State safer for all.
