Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected vehicle theft kingpin, 28-year-old Mosuru Issa, and recovered a stolen wine-colour Toyota Camry along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Mowe.
Issa, a resident of Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, was arrested on September 11, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation by personnel of the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement on Saturday, September 12, said that the operatives, who were conducting routine patrol around 7:30 a.m., flagged down the vehicle for a security check.
However, the three occupants allegedly abandoned the car and fled in different directions upon sighting the police.
The PPRO stated that the police operatives pursued the suspects, leading to Issa’s arrest, while the vehicle was recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the car was allegedly stolen on September 7, 2026, from where it was parked in Ojo, Lagos State.
Babaseyi said that the fleeing accomplices are still at large, while efforts are ongoing to locate the vehicle’s owner and apprehend the other suspects.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the state.
The Command advised vehicle owners to use anti-theft devices, including tyre locks and steering locks, especially when parking in public or unsecured locations.
