The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer, Rilwan, in the Apata area of Ibadan, recovering substances suspected to be Indian hemp and methamphetamine.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the suspect was arrested at about 8a.m. on September 11, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the Command.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, surveillance operatives attached to the Iyaganku Area Command launched targeted operations based on the intelligence, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Police said a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine and other suspected dangerous drugs were recovered from him.
The PPRO said that the suspect is currently in police custody and assisting investigators as the Command probes the source of, the substances and the extent of his alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade.
The investigation is also expected to establish the identities of other persons who may be connected to the suspected drug network.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, in his comment, reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
CP Abimbola described illicit drugs as a major catalyst for crime, assuring that the Police would continue to disrupt the supply chains of substances capable of fuelling criminal activities.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information to the Police to strengthen the fight against crime in the state.
The suspect, according to the Command, will be charged to court after the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
