The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Michael Falade, has warned police officers against extortion, abuse of authority, human rights violations and political partisanship ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Falade gave the warning during a strategic meeting with officers of the Command at the Officers’ Mess Auditorium, Okesha, Ado-Ekiti, where he reinforced the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on professionalism, accountability and operational discipline.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, SP Abutu Sunday, on Tuesday, November 3, the Commissioner declared the Command’s zero tolerance for misconduct and other unprofessional practices capable of undermining public confidence in the police, warning that officers found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
He directed officers to ensure that criminal investigations were thorough, intelligence-driven and conducted in strict compliance with due process.
He also warned against unlawful detention, intimidation, extortion and abuse of police powers.
Falade charged supervisory officers, Heads of Departments and Divisional Police Officers to take responsibility for the conduct of personnel under their supervision.
He further stressed the need to observe the principles of proportionality, legality, accountability and necessity during police operations.
On the forthcoming general elections, the CP cautioned officers against political interference, partisan activities and any conduct capable of compromising the neutrality of the police.
