The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, for allegedly brutalising her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube, in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Monday, September 14, 2026, saying the suspect was apprehended following reports from concerned residents who alerted the authorities to the child’s condition.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the woman allegedly inflicted multiple injuries on the child by burning her with a hot knife over a piece of meat.
The victim was reportedly rescued and taken into protective custody while receiving medical attention.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police in the state condemned the incident and directed that the case be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice for the victim.
He added that the police remained committed to protecting the rights of children and urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, neglect and domestic violence to relevant authorities.
The police said the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
