The Osun State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the alleged brutalisation of a woman, Mrs Ibironke Arowolo, at Iri-Eru Junction, Iwo, dismissing claims that its officers failed to act on the matter.
The suspects, identified as Sodiq Yusuf, 36; Olagoke Kolawole, 35; Ajani Saheed, 41; Samuel Ayetimiyi, 16; and Doris Ayetimiyi, 19, were arrested for alleged assault occasioning harm, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and affray.
The Command, in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15, by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident followed a long-standing dispute between two factions of commercial motorcycle operators operating around the junction.
According to the police, one faction was allegedly supported by Saheed Ajani, who owns a hotel in the area, while the other was backed by Arowolo, who operates a beer parlour at the same location.
The Command explained that trouble broke out on September 6, 2026, when a disagreement over customers resurfaced among the motorcycle operators.
It said Ajani, who attempted to mediate in the dispute, was allegedly attacked and injured on the head with a broken bottle by Samuel Ayetimiyi, the 16-year-old son of Arowolo.
The police alleged that following the incident, Sodiq Yusuf, Olagoke Kolawole and others still at large invaded Arowolo’s shop, assaulted her and inflicted injuries on her face and other parts of her body, resulting in her hospitalisation.
The Command further stated that Doris Ayetimiyi, Arowolo’s daughter, allegedly joined the ensuing confrontation with some customers at the shop after seeing her mother being beaten and injured.
The police said the case was initially reported at the Iwo Divisional Police Headquarters by Ayetimiyi Oluwakemi against Ajani Saheed before it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
The Command described as inaccurate a social media statement by a human rights activist, Nurudeen Ibraheem, in collaboration with Arowolo’s children, alleging police inaction in the matter.
It assured that investigation was ongoing and that all five suspects would be charged to court upon its conclusion.
