Delta State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended two suspected armed robbers, Ogochukwu Stephen and Christian Emmanuel, who were found with guns and ammunition along Ibusa Road, Asaba.
The command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest, said that on Friday, January 17, at about 0923a.m., the operatives saw the suspects in a tricycle with registration number 99VG while conducting stop-and-search duty.
SP Edafe stated: “The operatives subjected them to a search, during which two rounds of 9mm live ammunition were initially recovered from them.
“Upon further investigation, a search warrant was executed on their premises where two fabricated Beretta Pistols and one improvised gun were recovered.”
In a similar vein, patrol teams from Agbarho Division, acting on a tip-off, went to the residence of a suspect, Eriga Enyuche, aged 40, with a search warrant on January 17 at about 2:10p.m., and found one G3 rifle, one pump action gun and one cutlass concealed inside the ceiling of his one-room apartment during a search.
Also, a suspected cultist, 29-year-old Felix Emizibo, was arrested, with a fabricated Beretta pistol recovered from him.
On what led to the suspect’s arrest, the PPRO said that on January 17, at about 7p.m., the Divisional Police Officer, Bomadi Police Station, received information that some suspected cultists were seen parading themselves at Bomadi and brandishing weapons in a show of supremacy.
“Acting on this information, on the 18th of January 2025, at about 1800hours, the DPO, Bomadi, detailed operatives attached to the division alongside vigilantes who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation and arrested the main suspect Felix Emizibo ‘m’, aged 29yrs, and one fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect bought the gun from his uncle for the sum of N150,000,” Edafe disclosed.
He added that all the suspects were in custody and undergoing further investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, who commended officers and men of the command for their commitment to ensuring the residents’ safety, urged members of the public to trust and continue to give useful, credible and timely information to the police.
