Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has mourned the death of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the Yoruba nation.
Makinde, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser (Media), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Tuesday, October 20, said the late elder statesman devoted his century-long life to public service, cultural preservation and the promotion of moral values.
The governor said Fasoranti played a significant role in shaping political thought and providing guidance across generations, particularly during periods of political uncertainty and national transformation.
“For many decades, Pa Fasoranti stood at the intersection of conscience and public duty, shaping the moral architecture of our politics and offering guidance that transcended generations,” Makinde said.
He described the deceased as a symbol of wisdom, courage and integrity, adding that his contributions to the Yoruba cause would be remembered for generations.
Makinde said Fasoranti’s death was not merely the loss of an elder statesman but the departure of a respected voice whose counsel helped shape the region’s political and cultural identity.
The governor extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the Akure Kingdom, the Ondo State Government and people, as well as the entire Yoruba nation.
He noted that Fasoranti’s commitment to unity, discipline and selfless service made his legacy relevant beyond his immediate community.
According to Makinde, the late Afenifere leader spent his 100 years serving the community, culture and country rather than pursuing personal gain.
He added that Fasoranti’s life of purpose would continue to inspire leaders, scholars and citizens, urging the Yoruba people to uphold the values he represented.
“May his gentle soul find peaceful rest, and may the ideals he embodied — integrity, discipline and selfless service — continue to guide us as we navigate the future he worked so hard to shape,” the governor said.
