•As CP promises eradication of crime

Suspected armed robbers, cultists and drug dealers have been arrested by police operatives from Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Akodo Division, Ajah, in Lagos State Police Command.
Those arrested were 10 suspected armed robbers and two Aiye Confraternity members, who were reportedly picked at various locations in the state.
Disclosing this in a statement on Saturday, January 2, 2021, the police spokesman in the state, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi gave the names of the suspects as Hussein Hudu (23), Ibrahim Bello (25), Kabiru Tajudeen, Ibrahim Hamed, Elijah Ogbonna, Daniel Emmanuel, Chukwuma Abiaza, Rafiu Kolawole, Ibrahim Ogundimu and Nwerrih Elvis.
One other suspected armed robber, Adamu Zango (35), is still at large, the PPRO said.
According to Adejobi, the RRS Commander had briefed the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, on Saturday, January 2, that RRS operatives, led by him on patrol at Lekki, arrested two suspected robbers operating on a motorcycle, and eight suspected criminals in their various hideouts, in the early hours of Friday January, 1.
The robbery suspects had reportedly attacked and stabbed the back of one Robert back at about 4a.m., on new year day, in a bid to dispossess him of his bag and mobile phones.
The PPRO further stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the trio connived, converged and lodged at Obalende Area, in preparation for robbery operation.
Items ecovered from them included two knives and their operational motorcycle, with registration number AGL 808 QL.
Adejobi said further that eight suspected criminals, including three suspected cultists, as well as five drug dealers and smokers, were picked up at different locations within the state during an all-night patrol on new year’s eve.
In the same vein, police operatives attached to Akodo Division arrested two suspected members of Aiye Confraternity at Eleko Beach, during an attempt to attack their targets in the area on Saturday, January 2, at about 1pm.
The suspects were identified as Adegbenga Balogun (25) and Temitope Yusuf (24).
Items recovered from them included a locally-made pistol, live cartridges and charms.
Adejobi said that the Commissioner of Police had ordered that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and prosecution.
Giving out instructions on Police Communication Network to officers and men of the command on Saturday, Odumosu reiterated his commitment to getting rid of armed robbers and cultists in the state, with the adoption of community policing strategies.
The police commissioner also spoke on the need to take the battle against armed robbery and cultism to their dens across the state.
He reaffirmed the police command’s zero tolerance on crimes and social vices, especially cultism, which he described as “the root of all violent crimes.”
Odumosu vowed to take the battle to the criminals’ dens and flush them out of the state, according to the provisions of the law.
