A 55-year-old man, Ishau Falana, is in police net in Ogun State Police Command, over the murder of his relative, one Badmus Rafiu, whom he accused of burning the bush close to his own farm.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement on Tuesday, January 19, that the incident occurred on Thursday, January, 2021.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the younger brother of the deceased reported at Ayetoro police station, that Rafiu went to their farm at Oluwasogo area of Ijaka Isale, only to be accosted by the suspect, who challenged him for burning bush very close to his farm.
The PPRO stated further that the complainant said that the altercation led to a fight between the murder suspect and the deceased.
“The suspect overpowered the deceased, tied his hands and legs with rope and used a stick to beat him to a state of coma, before leaving him there and returning to the town.
“The following day, when the deceased’s mother got to the farm, she met him already dead,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
He said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ayetoro Division, CSP Bolaji Jimoh, sent his detectives to the scene, from where the corpse was removed and taken to the mortuary of General Hospital, Ayetoro, for autopsy.
He added that Falana, who was traced and apprehended, confessed to tying his relative’s legs and hands, before beating him to coma.
However, the suspect claimed that he never knew that his action would lead to his relative’s death.
Oyeyemi said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward A. Ajogun had directed that the suspect be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
