The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers after a five-week intelligence operation that culminated in a raid on their hideout in Ibadan in the early hours of Saturday, October 10, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Yusuf Adeyemi, 39; Isiaka Kayode, 40; Yusuf Basiru, 35; Adewale Lawal, 38; Saheed Lateef, 36; and Idowu Olanrewaju, 42, were arrested at about 4:15 a.m. following sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering by the police.

A statement by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, on October 12, said that a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of five firearms.

They included a fabricated English-made pistol, a revolver, a pump-action gun, a locally made cut-to-size gun and a locally made pistol.

The police also recovered five live cartridges and four cutlasses from the suspects.

According to the PPRO, the suspects confessed during interrogation to being members of a criminal gang allegedly responsible for terrorising residents of Ibadan and its environs.

The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the suspects’ involvement in other criminal activities, identify possible accomplices and determine their connection to additional armed robbery cases across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations against armed robbery and other violent crimes.

He urged residents to provide credible information to assist in preventing and detecting crime.
