Immediate past governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson on Friday, May 14, 2021, paid a solidarity visit to the acting Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba, in solidarity with the Nigerian Police Force over acts of terrorism, unprovoked and coordinated attacks on police, resulting in murder of officers and malicious damage of security assets and other government infrastructural facilities in some parts of the nation.
Dickson was received by the IGP at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Condemning the attacks on police officers, Senator Dickson called for a cessation of all such criminal acts.
Making the solidarity visit known in a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, a Commissioner of Police, said that the Senator asserted that the police were not the problem of the nation and should not be seen as the enemy of the people.
Mba stated: “The Senator, while congratulating the IGP on his appointment as the 21st indigenous Inspector General of Police, called for proper funding of the Force to enhance its operational efficiency.
“He commended policemen and women for doing their best in the face of daunting welfare and operational challenges.”
In his response, the IGP thanked the Senator for his visit, assuring him and the Nigerian people that in spite of the numerous challenges the Nigeria Police Force had been facing, it would remain committed and unwavering in its task of protecting lives and property.
