A salesman, identified as Lucky Otuonye, has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command for his alleged plan with armed robbers to invade his master’s electronics store and cart away items.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, July 28, 2021, with two others, Chinedu Peter and Matthew Igwe.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, July 29, the police spokesman in the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the Divisional Police Officer of Ago Iwoye Division, CSP Paul Omiwole, received a call, informing him of the invasion of Abuking Electronic Shop at Olopomerin area of Ago Iwoye by armed robbers.
The call, he said, made the DPO and his men to move to the scene, but the robbers, who stabbed the salesman on his left hand, had escaped with a 32-inch LG plasma television before the arrival of the policemen.
The salesman, Otuonye, was said to have been taken to hospital for treatment, while all the adjoining police stations in the area were alerted to be on lookout for the fleeing suspects.
Some hours after, members of a group of hunters reportedly saw two men with a plasma television in Awa Ijebu, and informed the police who promptly arrested them.
The PPRO stated further that they were later taken to Ago Iwoye where they confessed to being responsible for the robbery operation they had carried out earlier.
They however disclosed that it was the salesman who invited them to come and rob the electronics store, leading to his prompt arrest also.
Oyeyemi said that the salesman had already made a confessional statement.
Recovered from them were a 32-inch plasma television, a Bajaj motorcycle and a knife.
The state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun thereafter ordered a thorough investigation into the past activities of the suspects, after which he said they would be arraigned in court.
