•Arrest cannabis dealers with weeds
Two armed robbery suspects who had snatched two vehicles were shot dead by operatives of Delta State Police Command after a gun battle, while two AK-47 rifles, magazines and live ammunition were recovered from them.
This was disclosed by the acting police spokesman in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, on Monday, August 30, 2021.
The PPRO said that on Saturday, August 28, at about 5:30pm, the patrol team from Otu-Jeremi police station on stop-and-search duty along Egbo/Otokutu road, was informed that four suspected armed robbers, who had earlier snatched two vehicles, abandoned them at Otokutu community due to suspected mechanical fault and were escaping in a tricycle.
The vehicles were identified as a gold colour Toyota Camry with registration number RSH 291 AW and a custom colour Lexus 350 SUV with registration number WWR 737 KL.
This, Edafe said, made the patrol team to go after the suspects, but on sighting the police, they started shooting, leading to a gun battle.
The hoodlums were forced to abandon the tricycle, with two of them escaping by running into a bush while two others were found in the tricycle with gunshot injuries.
According to the PPRO, an AK-47 rifle with breech number not visible, an empty magazine, a cash sum of N200,000, and gold jewelry were recovered.
He stated further that the suspects who sustained gunshot injuries were rushed to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Otu-Jeremi Division reportedly led a combined team of police/vigilante to further comb the bush for the possible arrest of the other fleeing members of the gang, and, in the process, another AK-47 rifle with breech number NK344397 with two magazines and three live ammunition were recovered.
Saying that a manhunt for the other members of the gang was ongoing, the police spokesman pointed out that the success was recorded as a result of the proactive strategies put in place by the state Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali.
On the same day, the command’s Crack Squad raided criminal hideout at Ozoro community where two suspects, identified as Cyril Enishoke, aged 20, and Oghogho Joseph, 32, were arrested with a large quantity of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa.
DSP Edafe said that the Commissioner of Police assured Deltans that the command would do all it would take to see that the state security would continue to improve, promising also that the tempo would be sustained to make sure that the state is made too hot for criminally-minded people.
