A secondary school student, Ojo Rokeeb, was Tuesday, February 15, 2022, suspended by the Oyo State Government for assaulting a National Youth Service Corps member.
This was made known in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.
The statement said that the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Rahman Abiodun Abdu- Raheem frowned at the reported case of Rokeeb, a student of Anglican Commercial Secondary School, Orita-Mefa Ibadan, who slapped a corps member, ordering an immediate one-month suspension for the student.
The Commissioner, who visited the school, also said the suspension would serve as a deterrent to other students, adding that a letter of suspension would be given to his parents.
He also said that the student, on return, must apologize to the corps member and sign an undertaking not to repeat such act.
While addressing the students, the Commissioner charged them to be of good behaviour, reiterating that Oyo State government would not condone any act of indiscipline.
He sternly warned that any student caught acting in an uncivilized manner, would henceforth be dismissed from schools in Oyo State.
Barrister Abdu-Raheem also charged teachers to be more dedicated and punctual at work.
