Commissioner of Police in Delta State Command, Ari Mohammed Ali has assured the Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Andy Ugochukwu Egwunyenga, and other management staff that his command is ever ready to partner with the school in order to achieve a conducive and peaceful environment for the staff and students.

The Commissioner of Police gave the assurance on Friday, March 22, 2022, during a courtesy call on the institution’s management.

He was received by the Vice Chancellor and the management staff, according to a statement by the command’s image-maker, DSP Bright Edafe on Sunday, March 13.

In his remarks, Ali pointed out that the university environment was one that must be policed properly, as it comprised of vulnerable youths needing proper guide against cultism, internet fraud and other related practices that would affect them negatively.

He also noted that as an officer driven by community policing, the need to partner with all stakeholders could not be overemphasized.

He urged the management of the school to reach out to the Divisional Police Officer or the Area Commander whenever the need arises.

Ali added that his office would always be open to handle issues on which the desired results were not achieved.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor described the visit of the police commissioner as first of its kind in the existence of the school.

He praised the Commissioner of Police as a goal-oriented police officer whose agenda was well spelt out.

Prof Egwunyenga said he believed that the state security under the administration of CP Ali would be a very solid one.

In another development , the Commissioner of Police visited Abraka Police Station where he gave a brief lecture to officers and men of the Division.

Ali told them of the need to be civil while dealing with members of the public, noting Abraka and its environs as a university community where majority were students, hence the importance of knowing that policing a student community might not be entirely the same with policing a commercial community.

Saying that students could easily ignite crisis if not properly managed, Ali noted: “Sstudents are our children, brothers and sisters, and must be handled with care.”

He sternly warned against extortion of any kind, involvement in crime and fraternizing with criminals, saying that violation of human rights would not be tolerated, as any officer found wanting would be decisively dealt with.

The police boss also emphasized on the need for police personnel to be neatly and smartly dressed as it would determine how they would be assessed by members of the public.
