Eleven suspected members of a cult group, Eiye Confraternity, who who were accused of being responsible for the killing of one Olaosebikan Tejuosho, have been arrested by police operatives in Ogun State Police Command.
The murder was said to have been carried out at Isale Abetu area of Abeokuta on March 25, 2022.
The suspects were identified as Quadri Ogunsanya a.k.a Oguns, Jamiu Kehinde a.k.a General Smart, Adenekan Samuel a.k.a Adiye, Waris Ismail, Olamilekan Hamsat a.k.a Diara, Bamidele Waliu, Makinde Azeez, Makinde Ifajimin, Makinde Fashakin, Makinde Faleke and Ajeifa Arifasope.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrests on Sunday, May 29, said that the suspects were all picked up at Itoku area of Abeokuta metropolis following a credible information received by the anti-cultism section of the command.
The cultists, who was reported to have been involved in series of bloody cult clashes within the metropolis, were said to be planning another onslaught at Itoku area.
The PPRO said that on the receipt of the report, the officer in charge of the anti-cultism unit, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatosin mobilized his men and moved to the area where the 11 members of the group were apprehended.
“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Eiye cult group. They confessed their involvement in series of cult clashes, one of which led to the killing of one Olaosebikan Tejuosho at Isale Abetu area of Abeokuta on the 25th of March 2022.
“They also confessed to being responsible for the killing of one Habib Mego and one other person simply known as School boy (real name unknown) at Omida area of Abeokuta, all on the same day,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
He stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, who ordered a full-scale investigation into the past activities of the suspects, also directed a manhunt for other members of the group.
The police commissioner also warned parents and guardians to call their children and wards to order, as the clampdown on cultists across the state would continue until the state would be rid of the hoodlums terrorizing the state residents.
