Armed men invaded the residence of the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Aminu Iya-Abass, on Thursday, and kidnapped two members of his family.
The house is located in Mbamba area.
After breaking into the Speaker’s house, a source had said that the gunmen killed one of the vigilantes guarding the house, while a policeman sustained bullet wounds.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said that the gunmen abducted two persons.
But he described as untrue, the report that a policeman was killed.
According to the PPRO, “yesterday, (Thursday), a certain house was attacked by unknown gunmen, who killed a vigilante and went away with two persons from the residence.
“Our people (policemen) got to the residence around 4:00am to halt the operations of the gunmen.
“At that point, what mattered to them was to rescue the two persons that were abducted by the gunmen and not who owns the house.”
Nguroje added that the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju directed operatives to go after the gunmen and rescue the two persons that were abducted.
