Just about a week after two cases of incest were reported in Ogun State, another man, 52-year-old Jimoh Mutaliu, was on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, arrested by policemen of the state police command for not only having sexual relationship with the 16-year-old daughter of his younger brother (name withheld), but also impregnating and procuring abortions for her.
Disclosing the strange but true story on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that it was the suspect’s brother who came to lodge a complaint that led to his arrest.
According to Oyeyemi, the victim’s father told the police at Adatan divisional headquarters that he discovered that his 16-year-old daughter was pregnant, and findings by him led to the discovery that his brother, who is his daughter’s uncle, was responsible.
The complainant further said that shocking revelations had it that his brother had been having carnal knowledge of the victim for some time now and had even procured abortions for her twice.
The PPRO said that the report made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Adatan police station, SP Abiodun Salau, to send detectives to the scene where Mytaliu was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect made confessional statement that he actually committed the crime. He also affirmed that he had procured two abortions for her with the help of a nurse.
“The victim has been taken to hospital by the police for medical treatment and report,” Oyeyemi stated.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Ajogun, who expressed worry about the rampant cases of incest in the state, advised mothers to be very watchful of their female children, while they should not allow men to be so close to them, no matter their relationship with them.
