The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone Eleven, Sikiru Kayode Akande, has advised parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to desist from getting involved in any form of violent protests.
The AIG gave the warning message in a statement by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Ayeni, on Friday, February 17.
Pointing out that violence had never helped any nation and would not be the solution to the problem confronting the nation, the AIG said that his zone would not allow further breakdown of law and order within its jurisdiction.
In view of the current situation in the country, AIG Akande urged all to remain calm and go about their legitimate businesses.
He said that the police ICT Department is working and analysing all the video records they have, adding that the police would soon start a clampdown on all criminals and miscreants who took advantage of the situation to break into government and private properties.
“This Zone will not allow miscreants to take over our public space,” the AIG said.
He also directed Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Osun states to activate their criminal intelligence bureaus to start picking all the thugs and miscreants involved in the past violent protests.
He also disclosed that Zone Eleven had activated its political desk, headed by ACP Babatunde Adeniran, to handle all political and election matters.
