Police operatives attached to the Obosi Division in Anambra State Police Command on Saturday, March 23, arrested a suspected cultist, Kosiso Okonwko, while on patrol along the Obosi/Nkpor Road.
A Beretta pistol was recovered from the suspect who confessed to being a member of Neo Black Movement, popularly known as Aye Confraternity and Black Axe.
In another operation, police operatives attached to ‘B’ Division, with some mobile policemen of 29 Squadron on stop-and-search operation, intercepted a tricycle with registration number BBG 767 QH, driven by one Augustine Okafor who was wearing Army Camouflage trousers at about 9.20p.m. along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Amansea.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement that Okafor could not provide a satisfactory answer when interrogated by the operatives, resulting in a search which led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol, seven live ammunition, a sum of N15,600 cash, substances suspected to be hard drugs and charms.
The police spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Command Tactical Unit for a discreet investigation.
Noting that the Anambra Police Operatvies are more motivated, CP Orutugu remarked that they have been working actively to combat crime and ensure state residents’ safety.
