Benue State Police Command on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, arrested one of the inmates of Kuje Correctional Centre, Ebube Igwe Jude, who escaped from
custody during an invasion by terrorists recently.
Jude reportedly arrived in Makurdi, the state capital, after his escape from the prison.
Confirming this in a statement on Thursday, July 21, the Police Public Relations Officer in the command, SP Catherine Anene, said that on getting information about the presence of the escapee in Makurdi, detectives were deployed to investigate the case, leading to his arrest at George Akume Way, Wurukum, Makurdi.
During investigation, Jude was said to have confessed that he was an awaiting trial inmate when he escaped from Kuje Correctional Centre during the jail break.
He said he was standing trial in a case of culpable homicide involving his girlfriend.
SP Anene said that the command had begun processes to hand over the escapee to the Nigeria Correctional service for necessary action.
