The Chairman of Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), has called for urgent, relevant and robust legal frameworks that can keep pace with technology advancements.

DIG Argungu, represented by the PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, said this at the Call to Bar reception and book launch of a staff of the Commission, Awar Oliver Gwajime, which held at the Parry Osayande auditorium of the Police Service Commission, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

DIG Argungu noted that the Internet of Everything (IoE) is rapidly redefining how “we live, work, govern and enforce laws.”

He said that this has implications on national security, privacy, human rights and governance.

The PSC Chairman stressed that in law enforcement, “we are already witnessing how digital surveillance, big data, and artificial intelligence are reshaping our operational landscape.”

He stated that the book was timely and “challenges us to think critically about the evolving interface between jurisprudence and digital innovation,” adding that it is a commendable contribution to the intellectual resources needed for a more informed, responsible, and adaptive justice system.

DIG Argungu said the book boldly explores the convergence of law, science, and technology in the digital era.

“‘Law, Science and Technology (LAST); Jurisprudential Interrogation of the Internet of Everything (IoE)’ is more than just a title. It is a statement of purpose and vision,” he remarked.

The PSC Chairman pointed out that the author and his work “speak volumes of the immense, often untapped potential that lies within the walls of our institutions,” saying that he is a shining example of discipline, diligence, and the thirst for knowledge.

He observed that the author’s journey should inspire others in public service to push beyond traditional boundaries and contribute meaningfully to scholarship, policy and national development.

“Today, we celebrate excellence, scholarship, and ambition. We salute a new member of the legal profession and a rising thought leader in the domain of law and technology,” he stated, urging the author to continue on this path of excellence.

The author, in his brief remarks, said he was overwhelmed by the show of love and support from all, particularly the chairman, members and staff of the PSC.

He also expressed appreciation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Dr. George Akume, who was represented by Prof. Babatunde, for his support; the Inspector General of Police who was represented by AIG Mohammed Gumel, and Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, who chaired the occasion.
