Three persons have been killed at Gwa-Pwana village in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State following the invasion of the community by gunmen suspected to be terrorists on the rampage in the council area and other neighbouring local government areas.
A source close to the community told Thenewsbearer that the gunmen, numbering about 20, stormed the village at about 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday and shot sporadically at different directions to announce their arrival.
The source further disclosed that the vigilance group members in the community could not wade off the attack as a result of the superior fire-power from the gunmen, adding that the vigilantes had to beat a retreat to avoid being killed.
It was gathered that in the shoot-out, a vigilante group member was killed, along with two others, while another two persons, including a woman, were kidnapped during the raid.
Efforts by the Nigerian Tribune to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Gabriel Ogaba, proved abortive, as he did not respond to several phone calls put across to him.
However, Mr Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri of the Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN), confirmed the incident.
He said the armed men, suspected to be militias, killed three persons at Gwa-Pwana hamlet of Vwang District in Jos South.
Mwantiri called on the both the federal and Plateau State governments to come to the aid of the people of Plateau South, who, he said, had been under constant attacks by hoodlums.
He added that farmers in most of the communities in the zone could no longer access their farms for fear of being attacked.
