The BRT driver, 47-year-old Andrew Nice, suspected to be responsible for the abduction and murder of Oluwabamise Ayanwole has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and has been handed over to the police.
It will be recalled that the 22-year-old lady got missing on board a BRT bus on February 26, 2022.
Lagos State Police Command’s image-maker, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, who made the arrest known in a statement on Monday, March 7, also appealed to aggrieved persons and sympathisers not to take laws into their hands as the police command would ensure justice by arraigning the suspect in a law court after the conclusion of investigations.
The PPRO said: “We want to reassure the public that the suspect (driver) will be arraigned in court very soon to face justice.
“We therefore appeal to aggrieved persons and sympathisers not to take the law into their hands, as the command is doing everything legally possible to prosecute this case.”
Before the suspect’s arrest, Ayanwole’s corpse was found lying half naked on the Carter Bridge by Ogogoro Community, Lagos Island
.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, CSP Ajisebutu said that the remains had been deposited at the morgue of the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, for autopsy.
“The bereaved family has been contacted and family members have identified the corpse as that of Oluwabamise Ayanwole, the lady earlier declared missing.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, is saddened by this incident and therefore expresses his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family on behalf of the management, officers and men of the command.
“Notwithstanding the death of Oluwabamise, the detectives handling the case would not rest on their oars until her killers are found.
“We, therefore, assure the concerned public and the bereaved family that we are closing in on the culprits and we are sure that soon, the suspects would be arrested and made to face justice for this murderous act.
“While soliciting the cooperation of all and sundry, we once again appeal to anyone with additional information that could help the police in arresting the suspects to kindly oblige us. Such information, we assure, will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The Command is ever determined and committed to protection of lives and property of residents in the state, and has strengthened its security apparatus to prevent a recurrence of this ugly, disturbing incident,” the PPRO had stated.
