The Coalition for Democracy In Nigeria, (CODIN) has congratulated the Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, for his selection as the Chairman of the Southwest Zonal Committee for the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu / Shettima Presidential Campaign Committee.
In a statement made available to Thenewsbearer on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, President and Convener of CODIN and also member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Mashood Erubami, then called for the immediate setting up of the zonal committee to commence the campaign for the popularisation and public presentation of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, during the coming campaign for the 2023 presidential election.
The group described the appointment of Governor Akeredolu as a positive step taken by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his colleagues on the board of the National Campaign outfit to prepare a very vibrant zonal committee for robust campaign from September, 2022 to assist the National Office with an effective and efficient zonal committee till the election in 2023.
CODIN, constituted by communities of human rights, pro-democracy and civil society organisations working in collaboration with artisans, women associations, youth organisations, informal sector workers and faith based Organisations, said, “All positive forces must be organised, and no stone should be left unturned to immediately ensure that the zone, state, local government and political wards structures are rejigged to ensure that the campaign team rests on a strong pillar of popular support in the Zone.”
Erubami, who was a past president of the oldest pro-democracy group in the country, the Campaign for Democracy ( CD ) and former Chairman of the renowned Transition Monitoring Group ( TMG), an election observation and election reform group, reiterated the believe of his group in the strong and beneficent leadership ability of Arakunrin Akeredolu, just as he added that he could vouch for his the governor’s competence that he will work efficiently to set goals and achieve set objectives which can improve the campaign situation with courage, moral and mental strength for the initiation of the right solutions to emerging problems from all angles of campaigns for eventual victories.
The group promised the ‘Aketi’ leadership to help in starting to build the strongest beacons of support and structured solidarity for the Southwest Zonal campaign team, to help in warding -off the collective antagonisms of the Labour Party (LP) in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), as well as joining hands in regularly debunking all fake and made-up allegations and damaging information flowing in the zone about Asiwaju Tinubu, his running mate and the party.
The group expressed its satisfaction that Tinubu considered Arakunrin Akeredolu as a square peg in the square hole of quintessential leadership of the Southwest geo- political, zonal campaign.
