Two men have been arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly conspiring to rape the 16-year-old daughter of their co-tenant (name withheld).
The suspects, Anthony John (35) and Jimoh Idowu (21), were arrested on Thursday, February 25, 2021, following a complaint lodged at Owode-Egba divisional headquarters by the victim.
The state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated on Monday, March 1, that the victim reported that she was at home with her younger siblings at Efunye Village, via Owode-Egba, when the two suspects, who reside in the same house with her family, broke into their apartment at about 2:00am and dragged her into Anthony’s room.
Oyeyemi said that the teenager disclosed that the suspects capitalised on the absence of her parents, whom they knew had travelled.
She said that they forced their way into her family’s room by breaking into it.
Using a piece of cloth to cover her mouth, the victim stated that they took her into Anthony’s room and took turns to have carnal knowledge of her.
The report, the PPRO said, made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Owode-Egba division, CSP Ediae Mathew, to send his detectives to the scene, where they arrested the two perpetrators.
He stated further that when they were interrogated, the suspects confessed to the crime, without an expression of remorse.
“The victim has been taken to Owode-egba general hospital for medical treatment, while the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour section for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” the PPRO added.
