A supremacy battle between two cult groups – Eye and Alora Confraternities at Ajegunle area of Ibogun, Ogun State, has led to the arrest of nine suspected members of Eye group.
Thenewsbearer learnt that they were arrested on May 24, 2021 during a clash.
The arrested suspects included Sodiq Olabisi, Oluwatosin Andrew, Oladimeji Oyedele, Wasiu Raheem, Oyedokun Lekan, Yusuf Ajetunmobi, Busari Taoreed, Bolaji Raphael and Salami Toheeb.
Speaking on the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, May 26, the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the police in Ibogun received a distress call about the clash while it was raging, which made the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Samuel Oladele to lead personnel to the scene.
“On sighting policemen, the cultists, who had already inflicted serious injuries on the chest of one member of Alora group, ran away with their injured colleagues, while police successfully apprehended the nine suspects,” the PPRO disclosed.
Recovered from the suspects were a cutlass, five knives, two axes, five phone batteries and a sum of N4,000.
Oyeyemi added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspects to Anti-Cultism section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation, and a manhunt for the fleeing members of the group.
