Elites from Esanland in Edo State have taken a unanimous decision of having the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Asue Ighodalo as their choice for governor in the election holding this weekend.
In a statement signed on behalf of the elites by the President & Coordinating Director, Esan4Esan Global Support League, Dr. Elizabeth Okoruwa Okojie, it was said that the decision was taken at a crucial virtual meeting held to evaluate the candidatures of the two distinguished sons representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP.
“Our resolve to support Dr. Ighodalo stems from his clear, non-ambiguous manifestos, which align with our vision for Esanland’s resurgence,” the statement read.
The elites pointed out the governorship candidate’s key pillars, which they said include: quality education, maximum security, economic growth, job creation and inclusive governance, among others.
Addressing the points one after the other, they said: “Dr. Ighodalo’s vision for enhancing education in Edo State aligns with our desire for a well-equipped future generation.
“His commitment to combating insecurity through technological innovation resonates deeply with our quest for peace and safety.
“Dr. Ighodalo’s plans for technologically-driven agriculture, provision of pipe-borne water and development of road networks will propel Esanland towards unprecedented economic growth.
“Also, his promise to create job opportunities exceeding the working population is a beacon of hope for our youths.
“Dr. Ighodalo’s pledge to promote tourism, collaborate with indigenes in the diaspora and harness our natural resources for economic growth has won our hearts.”
They continued: “While endorsing Dr. Ighodalo, we respectfully urge distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, to peacefully step down and return to his legislative role at the red chamber.
“We appeal to all stakeholders to refrain from conflicts, recognising that both flagbearers are illustrious sons of the same ancestral parentage.
“To emphasise our appeal, a million letters will be written to Senator Okpebholo by Esans at home and in the diaspora, expressing our collective desire for peaceful resolution. These letters will be sent to his email, WhatsApp, and social media handles.
“As Coordinating Director of Esan4Esan Global Support League, Dr. Okoruwa Okojie (Dr. Ojugo) looks forward to leading the teeming membership in congratulating Dr. Asue Ighodalo upon his enthronement as the incoming governor of Edo State.
